Have fancy goldfish and have just purchased them a brand new large tank. Having a substrate dilemma. Have some crushed tumbled clear glass which looks fantastic but am worried whether it is suitable for goldfish. Even though it is tumbled will it still be too sharp? Would appreciate some help asap since would like to fill the tank this weekend to start it cycling and need to choose the right gravel first!

I guess it really depends on just how tumbled it is. Judging by some of the pictures I've seen of tumbled glass, I'd be very hesitant to use it. If it'll fit inside a goldfish's mouth, it'll probably end up there at some point. If it got wedged in his mouth, do you think it would be pointy enough to hurt him?

hmm - not sure I can squeeze it between my hands really hard without it cutting

your hands are alot tougher than the insides of a fish, anything glass is generally a bad idea in aquariums. It has been known to do some serious damage to some fish.

OK sounds like it is bad idea - shame cos it looks stunning but would prefer the fish weren't shredded!! Will stick to fine pea gravel!!
