The active ingredient in Tums, or any other antacid for that matter, is calcium carbonate (CaCO3) so in theory it should raise both GH and KH.

Just watch out for the flavorings. Tums will add both calcium and raise your carbonate hardness, but I'm not sure how fish and inverts would react to the flavoring in the tablets. It might be harmless, but then again maybe not. You can use kalkwasser available at marine LFS and do the same thing without the flavorings.

My snails like the pink Tums most followed by orange, yellow and then green. Boy, do I ever understand the snails' tastes. I have not seen any issues from using both Tums and Caltrate.
Haha nice. Thanks for the info. I got the berry kind, the shrimp and cpo's seemed to like it best. They made a huge mess. I just don't know how to get my nerite calcium in a tank I'm trying to keep at about 3 KH/GH.
cuttlebones work, as does calcium enriched snello (snail jello). certain veggies also contain more calcium particularly dark, leafy ones.

Nerites in general will never approach the calcium enriched foods nor tablets. Your best way of keeping their shells intact is by keeping the water rich in calcium and high in pH, KH and GH.
