Well, last weekend I took a trip to Lesco with Soilmaster Select on my shopping list. Unfortunately, Lesco has done away with Soilmaster Select and they have replaced it with Turface. So, I opted to try it. I bought a 50lb bag of Turface All Sport for just under $15. I intend to use it in my 50 gallon tank, but I wanted to see what it was going to look like first so I added it to my empty 10 gallon tank. I did rinse it and very well, I must say. I put about 10 pounds in a 5 gallon bucket and took it outside and ran the water hose through it repeatedly dumping. It was quite easy to rinse, in my opinion. Much to my surprise, it only took about half of that 10 pounds for a good 2 inch depth in my 10 gallon tank and the water was only cloudy for an hour tops. I really like the looks of it against my (painted) black background. I think for the 50 gallon tank, I'm going to mix some Tahitian Moon sand in with it. Here's a shot of the 10 with the Turface All Sport. I will be moving my red cherry shrimp into this tank later today--I expect that to be a major task.
