i was just curious if you could turn a filter off at night and just have it on during the day... would that work? it is right near my bed thats why.. otherwise it's not a problem. also, i still cannot find any ammonia. is there an easier way to cycle??

I have always read that by running the filter you build up good bacteria on the medium that you use & that bacteria requires that constant push of oxygenated water to stay alive & thrive & that turning off the filter for an extended period could kill them & jeopardize what you have the filter for.

yes. i would not recommend turning the filter off at night, especially during a cycle. if your filter is too loud, get a quieter one.

:iagree: Eheim is noiseless.

The filter also helps keep the water oxygenated for the fish.
