I have a HOB filter running on one of my 10 gallons, but as an additional/emergency filter, I also have a cheap sponge filter running. (Just in case a filter on one of our other tanks decided to die, we have this sponge filter cycled and ready to go)

My problem is that it's LOUD.... and right next to my bed. As long as it stays submerged in the tank, is it okay to turn it off at night? We are going to have a dwarf puffer tank in our living room soon so the sponge filter can be rehomed there at that point, but for now, all of our tanks are in various occupied bedrooms.

I know it won't be filtering while it's off, but I'm just concerned about the cycle dying, not the extra filtration (appreciated, but not necessary)

whew... okay... that's what I thought...
at least I can sleep in my own room tonight now!

Do they make the sponge filter quiet? I've never used a powerhead before. Right now it's on a whisper air pump. The pump itself is quiet; the issue is the noise the actual sponge filter makes with all its bubbles.
