My girlfriend uses Turtle Clean in her RES tank. For those not in the know, it is aan enzyme that breaks down solid waste so that the biological filter can take care of it rather than having big chunks of turtle poo on the bottom of the tank. I assume it is not safe to use in a FW aquarium with fish, but I really have no idea. Anyone know anything about it? She doesn't and I wouldn't use it as a replacement for water changes. I was just wondering in terms of a supplement for vaccing and to get rid of unsightly fish poo.

I would be curious too. I know this week I haven't been able to do a water change due to medicating the fish, but the medication is cleaning them out so to speak, so my tank has a defnite problem in that area. I could see something like this being really beneficial in situations like mine if it was completely harmless and didn't stress the fish.

Turtle Clean is a bunk product to sell to make money. A good filter will break down the waste and the tank should be cleaned weekly. I have 2 turtles in a 55 and regularly clean the tank. their waste does fall apart and break down on the bottom. I wouldn't use this stuff. There is no cheating and no easy way to do a water change. Do the hard work and you will be happy.

Bunk product or not, when she uses TC, the tank stays cleaner than when she runs out. I currently have him in a spare tank while his big new one cycles, and there is constantly a mess on the bottom (no gravel) even though I do plenty of water changes. I understand the argument that says Stresszyme and whatnot don't work because they are bacteria in a bottle with no food or oxygen. TC is an enzyme, so it isn't alive. There is much debate about TC and other such products in the aquartic herp world (as I am well aware), but regardless of whether or not it works, I would still like to know if there is a fishie equivalent.

i agree with your logic that an enzyme doesn't need food or oxygen. it's just a protein complex waiting to "eat" up some poo. i haven't used Kordon Tidy Tank but would be very interested in if it would help in your situation. I have a lot of live plants, and maybe the enzyme would help break down solid waste into something that's more readily available to their roots.
