Just a few pics of my Eastern Painted Turtle, Milo. She's such a cutie! She's a little less than a year old. I've had her since she was the size of a quarter.

She's in a 30g that's pretty empty now, but I have big plant plans and will post tank shots when they're worth looking at.

And before anyone asks: No, I don't actually know if she's a she. My understanding is that you really can't tell until they're a couple of years old, so I just picked one rather than saying "he/she" or (shudder) "it."

Yeah, I'm not really sure how I did that, it just sort of... happened. Just followed basic principles of being calm and patient and waiting for the animal come to you if at all possible. It doesn't work every time, but I just figure if she doesn't swim over she isn't hungry, so she doesn't get food that day. It's better to slightly underfeed than overfeed anyway. It is extremely adorable, though, and I'm really glad she does it!

timbo83 - Milo is my first (and only) turtle and she pretty much fell into my life by accident, but I'm really glad she did. Turtles are a big commitment---they can live several decades in captivity and need a lot of space---but it's totally worth it.
