I like the looks of the tuxedo urchin and my LFS told me that they have had luck with them eating hair algae... I am trying to clear up my hair algae bloom and want to add something else into the mix to help and keep if I can later on... How bad are tuxedo urchins and will they damage my corals and what not?
Or should I go with a sea hair and then return him when he is done helping my tank out?

My little blue tux urchin has never touched hair algae, but he snacks on coralline like there's no tomorrow.

Occasionally he'll bowl over a frag that's not entirely secured and once he even rolled right over some zoas ending up with a few hitchhikers for a few weeks. Never found out where he eventually ditched the polyps though.

will the coraline algea reproduce faster then he can eat it in a 24 gallon tank or no? I also dont want to strip my tank of coraline algea so i am not sure if he was a good move but i like him alot. I bought the tuxedio urchin and the seahair. Both are cool
thanks
mike

Depends on how quickly your coralline grows (which depends on your parameters).

Assuming you've got good dKH and at least 400 ppm Ca and good light I wouldn't worry too much about a tux starving.
