Two Dwarf Gourami's

Hello I have two dwarf gourami's in a 10g tank w/ 1 large, medium and small plant. One is male and the other is female. It seems to me that the male is quite agressive towards the female. I just re-arranged the plants to hopefully give her more hiding. Is this normal for gourami's?

yes, especially when they are younger. i have had to seperate mine as the poor female never got a moments peace. i have heard people recommending 2/3 females for every male
 
Like all anabantids (bettas etc..) the gourami is more a solitary fish. They don't normally form strong bonds. A 10 gallon tank is suitabel for a single gourami but 2 will most likely lead to problems with aggression. If it looks like the weaker just won't cut it I would consider taking it back to the store.
 
yea in my expierience with gouramis they tend to not like each other much. IE, chase each other around the tank. and yea a 10gal is small for 2 gouramis. can you see any major fin damage on either? if so you may need to take one back.

Well I bought it from meijers so I kind of hate to take it back there. So far there is no fin damage. I put in more plants which have seem to help a little. Would buying another female help...?

Here is a link that shows a picture of a female and male together. This is generally what the frmales look like. Dwarf females are normally rare in most stores, being a special order. If your still shows the colours of a male but just a little duller there is a good chance you actually have another male that is intimidated and thus pale compared to the more dominant male.
