Two New Feather Dusters (Green and Purple)

awesome one u got there.

I was at the store the other day and they had a bright red featherduster. It didn't even look like a regular FD. it looked more like a cush ball. remember those little balls with all the plastic hairlike things on them that you used to throw at other peoples faces when you were a kid. the feather duster looks like one of those. it was the wild. The tube for this featherduster was SO big. it was actually kind of gross and it takes alot for me to find something gross in this hobby. lol. the feather colors were awesome though.

Maybe it was a type of coco duster/worm? I would love to have one of those but they are pretty pricey (50-80) and I heard the survival rate is terrible.

I was so jealous of the feather duster talk in this thread and all the gorgeous pictures, I went to a new LFS an hour away this weekend and asked them if they could order me one. They can and they'll call me tomorrow to let me know what my options are. This board is a bad influence ;)

Hahaha, can't say I am sorry. Now I get more pictures to look at :) You will have to definitely post yours when you get them.

Thats very nice of them to call you and let you know what types are available. I think I will have to try that one time. Mine are usually a hit and miss. I wonder if there are blue ones. I have never seen that color before.

I love your Featherdusters featherduster :)
Idk for some reason Ive heard they poisn your tank if die so i was always turned off to them :(

Glad you like them :) Thank you.

lol I never heard of them harming a tank if they died. I believe you are thinking of other creatures.

I think i might have one on the rock my hairy mushrooms are growing in. Ill see if I can post a pic. FD are really sensitive and close up really quick if bothered right?

All depends on the feather. Like most things in this hobby you do get exceptions to the rule! Mine stayed out even when my Tang was pecking at it, dislodged it from it's rock that it came on and was still out when I buried it's "bum" in the sand. It only went it for a bit when I chucked some food in the tank!! Like I say - there's always one:dance2:

my purple banded featherduster will pretty much only hide when my fish swims into his feathers or I am too close when cleaning.

my yellow/green feather duster is much more picky. he's got his feathers out about 1/3rd of the time as my purple feather duster. He also hides if he hears a loud sound, if I turn the light on or off (he hides so fast its amazing), or if I am doing maintenance to the tank.

mine have been quite hardy so far. I mean they live in a tube with no protection at the LFS. when you get them home and put them in a nice secure spot they seem to flourish quite well.

I recorded a vid of it opening and then quickly closing really fast. Ill post it up.
