I have good water parameters, i just got them checked at my LFS. My salinity is a bit high 1.027 from 1.025. I have now and i just added my skimmer, aqua C remora. My question is both my colt coral and pulsing xenia are doing very poorly. On top of doing a weekly water change of 20%, now skimming and adding Iodine once a week as recomended on the bottle (actually a little less). There is good moderate fow on the xenia and they are placed further to the top. I do not knwo what else to do.
My other Question is my brittle star has been curled up in a corner since i re-did my tank, i touched him and he moved so he is still alive, i am wondering if the salinity change did this and if there is any hope for him? I am doing a water top off tommorow to bring the salinity back to 1.025. Is this a normal thing for a brittle star? I have had him about a month and he is usually very active.

What kind of lighting are you using? I beleive that Xenia is chiefly photosynthetic, although if I remember the colt likes some nutrients(although I think most should thrive)

What were your parameters? Ill ask so noone else needs too, If your LFS didnt tell you, it could be a good idea to spring for a test kit, its really usefull in diagnosing problems.

Anyway, im sure someone with more knowledge will pop in at a more reasonable time, but thats just what I am thinking right now.

Thanks for the reply longinus. I think the xenia needs Iodine but i may be wrong. I have PC lighting total wattage is 192 watts so about 6 watts per gallon. My lighting cycle is 11-12 50/50 actinic 12-6 10,000k white and 50/50 actinic, 6-8, 50/50 again then moon light till 11 again. I am buying a test kit next week to do a better test myself this is the one i will be bying http://www.jlaquatics.com/phpstore/store_pages/details/testkits.php?product_ID=t-hmaster. My pH is a bit high at 8.5 my ammonia is 0 my calcium is 420. i did not test for alkalinity so that my be a problem.

Well, Aside from your other params which I dont know about your params sound a lot like mine, 6.5wpg on my xenia, med flow high in the tank and it is growing out of control, my lighting is just 50/50 straight up though for around 10 hours a day, with some natural sunlight from a window.

Are those creatures the only inhabitants of your tank? This could help narrow down the possible problems if other creatures are doing just fine.

Sorry I cant help with the star, I dont have one since I dont have the room for one yet.

the xenia and colt are pretty new, maybe they need more time to adjust. They were under 400 watt MH lighting in the frag tank i got them from. I am stumped.

That could very well be the problem, is that they are not used to the difference in lighting between their old habitat and their new one. I suppose the best bet is to wait it out.

Good Luck:)

I think you are right, thanks for your help anyways, i am very new so i freak out easily.
