i heard they don't have a good survival rate in aquariums, why is this? i want to keep one in the future but i want to get all the info first:help:

ok so i did some more research and found that they often starve to death... do you think that this will be a problem in a 1 &1/2 year old 30 gallon aquarium with about 2.5 inches of livesand and 40-45 lb of lr, the tank i want to keep him in will also have a 15 gallon fuge

Your chances are limited in a tank of that size, unfortunately. I don't suggest you attempt this species under the current conditions. Obtaining a full-bellied individual is hard enough to begin with. Most are undernourished or emaciated by the time they arrive to you.

If you're referring to a twin spot goby, like the one pictured here:

then I wouldn't recommend it. What you've generally been finding about them not surviving in captivity tends to be true. There's a few situations where they do live on for an extended period of time, but as far as I've heard, those few were in situations that were kept in pairs in larger tanks. We tried one in our 90g tank with 115 lbs of LR and 4.5" of sand, but had no luck with it over the long term. It lasted almost 8 months, but grew thin and completely wasted away despite all of the "tricks" that were suggested to help keep it alive. It was very sad, especially for my wife, as it was our favorite fish.
