Right now I have a very small piece of what I think is African Driftwood for my Royal Pleco. I want to purchase a larger size to center piece the tank. My questions is does the type matter? I want to get a nice piece off of E-bay because it's much cheaper than a retailer, I'll be buying off of RockArt. Mostly I see Malaysian Driftwood piece, would my pleco thrive off this or does he need a specific type?

the type doesnt matter just that he has access to wood. all wood has cellulose in it and the cellulose is what a pleco needs to aid in digestion

Yep, any good hardwood will suffice...

some is easier to eat than others - and mopani is pretty hard as a defense against termites. It's, therefore, tough for plecos to eat. I've also found that malaysian wood has a soft outer layer that is great for plecos, but when it's gone all that's left is less palatable harder wood.

I prefer locally collected hardwood (oak, fruitwood, hickory) that is edible through and through, and soft enough for all plecos to eat. Your royal can eat through most woods, but will prefer something softer.
