I was doing a quick google search for melanochromis auratus and found this statement.

I have a 30 gallon tank with only one female Auratus. When fed flake food she enjoys darting to the top and splashing water out. Aside from flakes, she loves small rosie reds. She also loves chasing my 2 other African Cichlids. If you enjoy fish on fish violence these are one of the meanest and Rosie Reds are only 5 for a dollar!

Tell me what you think........

I think this is a subject that has been beaten to the ground. (also.... 2002? really?)

i'm curious as to what is so 'sick' about it.

sure, the person gets an unhealthy kick out of feeding live. Highly unfortunate, at the least... but the fish youre talking about gets no more than 5 inches in length, so being in a 30 gallon would be no problem.. and IMO (my OPINION, no need to get defensive about it), feeding live occasionally is not a problem..

I think that was what petluvr was mad about. Having an Auratus in a 30G with two other Africans. I've kept these guys before, and they are really mean guys.

I feed live to my turtle, flowerhorn, snake, leopard gecko and sometimes my cray. I understand the natural order of things. My problem is why would a person get a kick out of watching this "enjoy fish on fish violence." I just feel like nobody thinks nothing of a statement like that but what if the statement read "If you enjoy dog on dog violence" what would be said then?

It's not having the auratus in a 30, I am experiencing some troubles out of mine that's in a 30 now. I just don't feel as though that statement should be allowed to be posted because people think nothing of it when it is fish but what if it was cat's or dogs or whatever other animal.

Get two seperate crates? Seriously..this is 6 years old..why are we debating it now?

I think there is some misunderstanding here. I have no probelm with live feedings, the size of the tank the fish is in is not the issue. My issue is I feel like fish are not always treated as animals, they are viewed as dispensable and it makes me sick.
