I have one u-tube and a few large uplift tubes from larger HOB filters that you might be able to cut down and use as a decent HOB filter u-tube. I'll take some pics tonight and see if its anything you can use.

There is the one U-tube and the three intakes from HOBs. The longer side would be long enough but the shorter side might be a little short, you might be able to extend it with a pice of 1.5" ID hose or something like that stretched over it.
