well i am not new to fish keeping but i need a lil advice on filtration for my new set up. i am buying a 37 gallon tall i know its an odd size but hey in my new apt its all i have room for. i was talkin to the owner of the LFS and he suggested a HOB and an undergravel filter for my new tank. he knows i like to overstock and i always have been one to go a lil on the excessive side for filtration but i have never used an undergravel filter b4. i was doin a lil pre shoppin and noticed at bigalsonline the rena filstar canister filters i was very impressed with what i saw . so if anyone would care to chip in thier two cents on UG filter and HOB or cannister and HOB i would greatly appreciate it.

I say get both the HOB and Undergravel, they definitely won't hurt you at all.

UGF was fine in the past and I used them for years, but lets face it, it's just submerged bio media same as a canister. So why not just use the canister (nice oversized one) and get the wastes out of the tank.

if you decide on t ugf..convert it to rfug..the reverse flow is a better alternative to the std ugf.
all you need to do this is the powerheads placed so the water flows into the ugf this pushed waste up.it also utilizes a prefilter ad cuts down on heavy particulates entering the ugf.
