Many people use the Penguin powerhead that is reversible. It comes with a sponge prefilter and I understand it works pretty well.

I think some folks also put the output of their canister down the intake. That way only filtered water goes under the gravel. Correct me if I'm mistaken here, though.

this has made me think about the filter system i wish to setup after i nut it out. in my fav LFS on his display tanks he has UGF plates that draw water into a sump system then back out of a spraybar at the top of the tank. would this mean he just needs to stir the gravel around every now and then and all the crap gets sucked out from under the gravel through the plates? sounds like a good idea for lazy people...well not lazy just not alot of free time to play with the fishies! any links tips CLUES hahah much appriciated. i am also going to go ask him his opinion.
