most recent virus i got was during microsoft updates a couple weeks ago. the boy (son, 8) was peeved to find out his new SSD was causing another day of no pc for him at that point. he'd waited patiently almost all day already for the thing to be set back up from scratch.

got a couple from download.com before, major geeks, too.
people think they're funny sneaking them in there or are fed up with (business practices?) whatever from whomever or wherever and think they're clever.
couple years back, for a few weeks there, only place i could find malwarebytes without malware attacking during download was major geeks. dunno how the offender missed putting their crud there too, but i was grateful they hadn't.
