Ugh! My Python broke!

yeah...you should be able to screw the brass adaptor in the faucet and then screw the hose right on to it and fill the tank.... I drain my tank out the door into the back yard so I never use it to drain.

Only problem hooking it right to the faucet to fill will be adjusting the water temp ....with the adaptor I leave it on drain and use a digital thrometer to adjust the water temp the same as my tank water....without it might get pretty tricky unless you can figure out where your faucet handles need to be to get the temp pretty close....or use a thrmometer at the fill end as it is going into the tank and make adjustments as needed to get it close before it gets too full.

I always hook it up and then put the end that the water comes out into the sink and get the water temperature perfect there before taking it to the tanks. My question is.... how do you drain it out the door? I know with my normal hose you have to get the hose completely filled with water before it will flow. Is that what you have to do? Quite frankly, that would be a PITA to get the 25' python hose full of water to start suction. Unless, of course, you hook it to the faucet first to fill it with water and then unhook it and set it outside. That too seems like it'd be a PITA though.

natasha24: the website for the pyhton is www.pythonproducts.com I would tell them that you just bought it, maybe they will replace it for free, also the no. is 414-355-7000 and they have a fax 414-355-1144. good luck!!

you have three options for draining without using the sink.

1. fill hose with water at sink, close valve on the gravel vac side, put into tank, put other end outside (keep it above the height of the tank/intake end), then open the valve

2. put it tank, bring other end outside, start the suction the old-fashioned way - with your mouth. it's easy with the python, you have plenty of time before the water gets to you

3. fiddle with it until you understand how to get the flow without filling it up first. i can't explain it precisely, but if you submerge 1-2ft of the python into the tank so that small part fills up, then lift it up so the water flows down into the hose, the siphon will start by itself. you may have to do it a couple times, but once you get the hang of it, it's easy.

You can still use it as a siphon hose without the pump part. I haven't used that part of it for many years. I found that it wasted too much water and took too much time for what it was worth. I siphon out the water I want to remove then connect the end of the hose to the faucet to fill it back up.

I agree completely. I use normal hoses to drain and fill up my aquariums. The brass adapator should allow you to connect to an indoor sink if necessary.

Thanks! I went to the site and ended up sending them an e-mail. I told them exactly when I bought it. I'm waiting to hear back from them. I'll post on here if they actually do anything about it. I'm not going to get my hopes up but it's certainly worth a shot.

Umm.... I will *NOT* put my mouth on anything that has come in contact with fish water at any point or time. I guess that's the girl in me speaking. LoL. I think I'll probably stick with using the bucket for taking water out. I don't think I'd have much luck trying the out-the-door trick. As far as water in... I'm going to try what ya'll have suggested. It must work. Apparently I was just too frustrated to figure it out. I really feel bad for the people that have to use the bucket routing ALL the time.

I just stick the end in the tank...run it out the door....suck on the other end until I see it coming thru the hose and lay it down and let the draining/vacuuming begin.

Thats the good thing about the Python hose being clear...you see the water coming before it gets to your mouth when sucking on the end so you dont get a mouthful.

Cup your hand around the end of the Python and suck....this way your mouth never touches the fishy covered parts :)

But even though you can see the water coming, I don't think I could get over the thought of the "things" that have come in contact with the hose that is touching my lips. I mean, we all put some pretty gross things (when ya think about it) into our mouth from time to time or perhaps even frequently... but fish nasties? Bleh! Even the thought of taking in the air that's in the hose grosses me out. I don't know though. Maybe I'll try it. Perhaps put something over it so that my mouth doesn't directly contact it. Ahhhh why'd my python have to break.
