I've been ordering from ebay and aquabid alot lately. So I don't know where this "thing" came from. My nursery tank has a huge worm!! No, I didn't get a picture. I was do busy chasing it and screaming. I already got one out in a sponge filter. Now, I can handle alot. I'm a former farm girl.... cows, horses, pigs... and the products to "give" you. The countless puppies and kitties I've rescued with worms. I can even handle earth worms. But this thing just creeps me out!!! Do need to strip this tank? This would be difficult since I have many baby snails in there. But I want this thing gone!!! Another question... will it hurt my baby snails? I think I just talked myself into stripping the tank....

Advice would be helpful...

Hey Vick ummm how did u not notice a big worm come in with your shipment??? If its free swimming and looking flatish then its prob a leach unless its blood willed then may look more round. I dont think it would go after your snails though. Pics would be helpful though if at all possible.

I have no idea how I missed it coming in. Unless it was very very little upon arrival. I only got a quick look at it as I was chasing it.... very dark color... goes from 1/2" to 2" instantly.... not sure about flat or round... I think both as it is running from me. Also goes under the substrant/rocks very very quickly.

I would imagine its a leech might of been scrunched up on it host and not its had time to grow and feed so its bigger. Leaches are good swimmer. Not sure how to catch one for removal. Ummmmm try using two nets one to chase it out the other to catch make sure to have a container handy with maybe some alcohol to kill it or not sure of the most humane way to kill those suckers. To bad your not in cali I would catch it for ya just out of pure curiousity to find out what it is.

I had a very similar worm or two in one on my large planted tanks. It had the ability to stretch out very long and recoil to be very small, and blood red. I eventually found an ID picture of it on the net, just can't remember what it was called. They are extremely gross but harmless. They can come in with plants, small ones tucked into the roots. Mine hitched a ride with some plants I bought from florida. Florida apparently is a common source of them.

i want some worms in my tank!!! they seem so strange and interesting
