i bought my new tank around 2 months ago, its about 50cm x 30cm x 30cm, i think its around 80 - 100 litres.

it is currently stocked with.

1 Male Betta
1 Albino RTBS
2 Male Boesemani Rainbows
6 Neons
2 Small Mollies
2 Big Snails

Accessories
1 EHEIM pickup 2010 filter
55w Heater

when i first bought it, i could see a slightly strange colour, not a clear tank but gradually its gotten worse and when i look through it to see my white wall its an odd brown colour. at first i thought it was reflection from something, then i did some water changes and noticed just how brown it is.

i have started doing 2 x 10% water changes weekly, but have not seen any difference.

does anyone have any ideas on what i should do?

have you got drift wood in there??????????????

your tanks 45 liters and is over stocked

ok just did a more acurate test on the size, its 60cm x 35cm x 35cm
so by my calculations that would be 73 litres ??? (i was never good at maths)
and converting that to gallons would be about 20 gallons.

yes i have 2 pieces of driftwood in there.

boesemanis are about 4cm long
RTBS is about 6cm
Betta is about 5cm
Mollies are 3cm
neons are 2.5cm

your right it is 73 liters, with the fish that size your bio load is fine.

the piece of wood you have are leeching tannis into the water harmless to fish. you can try boiling them or sitting them in the bath tub with warm water overnight. also maybe think about getting a back ground for your tank. just plane blue or black, it will make you tank look alot nicer.

a piece of wood i got did this, after about 4 weeks of normal weekly water changes it cleared up. the wood stopped leeching

thnx for the quick replies quiksilver, if it doesnt clear up ill try boiling them.

the rainbows would act a lot nicer with some females... Otherwise they might not display or spawn... Maybe just fight all the time.

And I'd do more than a 10% water change every week; do about 30 %.

i had been told that betta's and RTBS are aggressive, funny thing is my two get along fine, its the rainbows that my betta doesnt like, but i would never replace my RTBS i have an obsession with RTBS's.

anyway i put the driftwood into the laundry sink tonight ill see what the water looks like tommorrow. i will also do a 30% water change weekly and see if it helps.

thats all i am going to put into my 20g tank, my other small tank has 3 red nose tetras (dont know their correct name) and my new betta i saved from the local pet shop, man they keep them in horrid conditions, instead of a 8x8 cell he now has a nice hexagonal tank with 3 friends and some water flow.

once i get my digital camera ill put some pics up
