yea, it's definitely not a farlowella; farlo.s have the long, pointed rostrums.
i'm with tanks4themem on this one. i am certain it's a whiptail. they go anwhere from $5 to $8 at LFSs, so lucky you! i'm jealous! :)
 
Same thing happened to me with a banjo catfish. I purchased a sword from walmart , got home, and that was in the bag with the plant..
 
thats a great fish. It looks exactly like mine. They are very fun to watch, expecially when they "walk" around the tank on their fins. Good luck
 
It looks like it is close to a Royal Farlowella, which doesn't have the Pinocchio nose like most farlowellas. However, the Royal Farlowella has a really, really long tail. The upper portion and lower portion of the tail usually extend over an inch. I have 3 adult Royal Farlowellas and 3 fry at the moment. I'm hoping the fry pull through and I end up with 6 adults. The adults in the display tank breed pretty regularly.
