UltraLife BGA Remover - user results are in!

The BGA remover made by UltraLIfe worked like a charm. ALL BGA in the tank died off within 24-36 hrs, ammonia never spiked (or even got above 0 ppm actually), my PH never moved (steady at 6.8), the fish didn't appear stressed. I don't think the beneficial bacteria in the tank were severly harmed (as far as I can tell) and the plants in the tank continued to grow during the period.

Things to note: The 75 gallon tank has pressurized CO2 injection and regular dosing schedule of Nitrate/Potassium/Phosphate and Traces.

I also did a 40% water change after 4 days and all is well. Good luck if you decide to use it.

Porter...is this product Erythromycin?
You can get perfect results using generic Erythromycin tablets dissolved in water <about 16c a tab> and it also works like a charm.

I don't know for sure if it's erythromicin.. it may be... ingredients are not on the label so I took a chance I guess. But I did call the company and they reassured me it was completely safe for the plants and the fish and the water parameters - and they were right!
The product is brand new... so might be a new formula that has less medicines, etc. All I know is it saved me ALOT of time and $$$ trying to rid the tank of BGA that kept coming back.

Now it should stay at bay as my plants are starting to take off and the fert dosing is consistent.

get those Nitrates up and the flow going...dead spots allow BGA to take hold....you should be good to go if you do all of that!

I know a friend of mine recently dosed his marine tank with a BGA remover called "Red Algae Wiper" or something like that. It got rid of his cyanobacteria quickly, and it didn't return. It seemed to work as well as EM, which I have used successfully.

On the package it states No erythromycin, no copper, no etc. I can't really be sure about what all it claimed it wasn't, but it never said what it was.

Had me curious.

If you have invertebrates in your tank, I would be careful in dosing something that doesn't list the ingredients....Just my 2c. Erythro is cheap and it works...with no danger to your invertebrates. Something to keep in mind when dosing a mystery cure.
