I am in the process of building a paludarium I would like to have some kind of fog maker in the tank. From what I can find seems like the ultrasonic mist maker are the only one that don't use a solution of chemicals or heat/cool the water. My questions are has anyone had expirence with these? They work by using vibrating the water will this irate the fish? Should I separate the mister reservoir from the main water in the tank?

Here is the site with the misters

I have a 55 gallon tank which will end up with about a 50/50 land water ratio how big of a mister do I need

I have one very similar to the zoo med one in the second poster's link. I LOVE it. In fact, I have three of them! I bought mine from Walgreens, it's a travel humidifier.

I ALWAYS discourage people from buying the ones you just drop into the water, as they can electrocute herps and fish. A separate unit is best, and is easier to maintain as well. It's cheaper and more reliable to buy one meant for people that is plumbable.

I agree with frogsong. The drop in electrical ones seem like a lot of trouble, and you have to really work to hide them. And, it's recommended that you use them with RO or distilled water, as they clog up rather quickly. Plumbing a humidifier to the tank is a simple process, and a lot of common humidifiers have standard tube fittings inside them, if you remove the vent, so plumbing becomes really easy. I've seen dozens of DIY humidifier threads over at Dendroboard... a quick search ought to give you a good idea of models to look for.

I am guessing its THIS ONE or one like it.

I never thought of a humidifiers would put out enough vapor for right fog effect. Its cheap and I would just have to make some kind of pipe system to get the fog where I want it. AWESOME

Yes, it's that one exactly. I use a 1L bottle on it. I haven't taken the time to plumb mine properly yet, so I use a piece of tubing stretched onto the spout that comes with it with a barb in the other end with a fan shaped output to spread out the fog.
