Its real they call it noodling. They reach in a log or a premade box and when the catfish latches on they pull them out. http://www.geocities.com/tony_soards/noodling/noodling.html
it is real and this wasn't a noodling fish Jswhite, it was a rod and reel fish. They had it in the Oklahoma and Texas newspapers about a month ago. It is still alive in a public aquarium in North Texas but I'm not sure the name of the aquarium. It is a blue catfish, reset the Texas state rod & reel record and overall record as well as the world records. The fish people noodle for (handfishing) are Flatheads generally. Bluecatfish tend to spin when you grab them and their teeth will grind your wrists to mush. Most fish caught noodling are in the area of 40-50lbs but some are around 75-80lbs. Biggest I've witnessed was my cousin's 43lb flathead a few years ago. Kyle
I stand corrected, after going to the link by victimizati0n, the bluecatfish at the bottom is the one I was talking about earlier (I thought it was 121). This one I'm not sure of but I wouldn't doubt it. I saw this photo a week or so ago and wondered what kind of cat it was because it looks similar to a blue but not quite. The blue catfish on snopes.com is real for sure. Kyle
Glad to hear it's still alive.Aha! it's a Wel's Catfish, evidently from Europe. No wonder I didn't recognize that serpant like tail. I followed the link at the bottom of the story on snopes.com and you can look through a lot of photos. It says it's a French site and they have lots of wierd stuff like that. One photo has a fish looks like an Eel crossed with a catfish. Probably 8ft or better. Kyle
