RTR and Daveedka have been running RFUG on planted tanks for years with no more trouble than other filtration methods. I'm experimenting with one in a planted 55 now. I planted it 3 or 4 months ago and it's doing great. Water clarity is excellent, as are parameters. The only drawback that I know of is you can't use substrate fertilizers, which many feel unnecessary anyway.
