Undertow Undergravel Filtration systems

HOB??? I couldn't figure that one out.

As for stores there are 100's here...some are dumpy some are not. As for the second one we went to (where I took the gobys back) the sales lady was new. I spoke to a gentlemen who has 4 tanks of his own and two are 55's. He showed me a penguin (300) biowheel that he uses himself. Will get it soon but since we just purchased a new car and funds are tight. He told me to get rid of UGF but I dont think I will.

As for the UGF i have now, the sponges are the things at the bottom of the skinny tube? How often do i rinse those? Didn't even know I had too.

I had him test my tank water and my ammonia was almost non existent..he did the test twice in front of me. My nitrate level was way high...he said 2. the water turned a pretty purple right away. I just did a 25% water change 15 min ago at his recommendation.

How do I get my nitrates down?

through water changes- so, just what you did. It'll get better. and sorry- HOB is hang on back- like the filter the guy showed you. Sorry I didn't type it all- I'm lazy.

Nope, the things at the bottom of the skinny tube are just air diffusers don't need cleaned but will eventually clog and need replaced. My comments were based on setting up a reverse flow ugf with powerheads. in that case (covered in the article) you will want to filter the water going into your powerhead with a sponge.
