I just bought a new 55 gallon for my daughter's birthday. It's entirely too large for her bedroom and my wife won't allow me to put it in the living room (my 90 gallon is already there.) The only other place i have room for it is in her playroom, which is in our basement. Unfortunately, I have an older home and the concrete floor in my basement is noticeably uneven. It bows from the center towards the sides and slopes slightly from from to back.

The iron stand that came with the aquarium has four feet, so the weight will only be transfered to the floor via four points, as opposed to a a full footprint as with a wooden cabinet.

Short of pouring fresh concrete to level the floor, are there any "tried and true" remedies for my situation? I thought about shimming with wood or cork panels, but i'm not sure if that would work.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

you shoulb be able to shim with wood..if you are worried about crushing the wood..make a puck by coverint the wood with a thin sheet of metal..there are plastic shims available too.

I'd safe the safest bet is to resurface the area that the tank is going to be sitting on, that way you wont have to spend a bunch of money to resurface the entire basement, and you know you will have a sturdy, level floor. Will also be very cheap too.

Perhaps building a small thin wodden stage for it that is level. 2x4 frame with a plywood top that is cut to the profile of the floor. That way if you want to move the tank you haven't done anything to the stand.

My tanks are in the basement (which is pitched, as good basement floors should be) and I simply use aluminum shims (1/8" thick aluminum bars, stacked to whatever height is required under the stands).
