A few months back when i first got my 30g tank, my dad talked me into geting this werid fish. I belive it is a loach, but not sure of what kind. I havent been able to research it online. http://www.loaches.com/species-index/leptobotia-pellegrini it looks very close to that, yet he has stripes (big black and gold ones, that got vertical down his whole body) he has the same type of face, the ugly one. His name is Lep-- someting. He is crazy! he will shot from one side to the other, and spends his days inside his cave. He has a diet of brime shrimp and flake food.

He used to live with mollies, they have all died, and vanished, except for one. Before i can net them out, he eats them....

My tank went to ****, me and a friend just got new filters, bio wheel, and cleaner it out, and put new gravel/sand in it. Its just being cycled right now. The crazy loach and poor little molly are in a bucket right now. I put a heater in there and a filter system so they will live. I need to know what kind of loach this is. I also want to know if i can keep chiclids with him.

I want to see if i can get chiclids, or if i have to keep with tropical fish, like what kinds can i mix. can i fix african with tropical or something? or i might get some tetras and corys. mabye a ghost shrimp or two.

last thing. i want to plant the tank. i have gravel covered by sand, that should be ok for the plants to root in? its a fine gravel. I have a 20 wat blue glow light in a 30g tank, is that enough for java moss? and if i want to get anything else, i need a 50 watt plus correct?

If someone could take the time to anwser these questions before i leave to the pet store to imbark on this adventure i would be very helpful

-crazy loach keeper.

( when we had to get him out of the tank, it was hell. he splashed water every where, we couldnt catch with our hands, we had to get a big *** bag and chase em in it, hes 6 inchs btw, im about to kill em and eat em).

I wonder if the fish is a Chinese algae eater (CAE) or a Siamese algae eater (SAE)? they look very similar to the one pictured.

No i would not mix cichlids and tropicals, they wont be the best of friends, the tropical will be dinner. I don’t think you will be able to keep too many cichlids in a 20gal. Plus if you plant it they will get into the plants.
Cichlids = rocky tank
tropical = planted

The gravel will do for a planted but the amount of light you have will not. shoot for 30W min.

Its not a CAE, well i hope not, i heard those bad boys turn into the devil. I have a 30 gallon tank, i think im going to try to find a 60 watt if thats possible

Whoops I just read right over the 30gal for some reason and thought 20. With it you could set up a nice biotope for the Africans but I would go planted, I guess im just biased that way. With 60 you would be able to grow lots of different plants.

i had a SAE and got rid of him.
im sure someone will give you some stocking suggestions for your tank.
