I don't remember if I posted this already but...

When I bought my polyps etc online the came in the mail one rock. As many know most hitchhikers will come on mysterious rock as well. most of my hitchhikers have been snails, worms, pods etc... nothing really big or cool. I've had some baby serpent stars but almost a month after getting my last order I discovered a small crack in the rock. I decided to split up some polyps so I grabed the rock and broke the top off. Much to my surprize there was a medium sized emerald crab in the rock... The rock was hollow and he must have crawled in as a baby and gotten stuck... after I free'd him a few days later I found him dead on the sand... All depressed I took care of him and went on with my business.

This morning I discovered him again... I quess he had molted and he needed to do so for a while since the skin was so heavy. He has grown quite a bit and I found his clever new home. at night he comes out and in the morning he crawls in a rock, down into a little burrow and pulls a small rock over his head and hides there. (Sneaky!!!) since its the same rock with the polyps on it I never noticed...

Who knows what I'll find next, but I'm sure it'll be exciting as well.

He might have gone in there to molt...They tend to find someplace where they can hide while their shell hardens. My mantis actually has a little pile of rocks that he makes into a door to close off the opening of his home when he molts. I never even see the shells, just a brighter, slightly bigger shrimp.

My blue lobster fills up his cave with rocks when he molts. Oh and also it's a good ida to leave the shell in there, because they will eat it and get back the minerals.
