Anyone ever come across any driftwood they couldn't ever get to sink?
2 years ago, I purchased this large 10"w x 20"H camel head shaped piece of driftwood, that had a thick chunk of marble screwed to the bottom. Soaked it for 2 months, but would still float, would pull the marble slab right up. I still put it in my 120g, but had to keep it under the center brace to keep it down. Kept in there for 2yrs, took it out a week ago, and still floats, :confused:not as buoyant, but strong enough to float the marble.
Buy alot of mylaysian, but for this tank, wanted to go with some native wood. Ive been soaking about 4 new pieces for a week, and hope it gets waterlogged, but if not, do u have any suggestions?

2 years and it still hasn't sunk? wow! maybe you're dealing with a type of wood that just doesn't waterlog.

Absolutely blew my mind too. I even tried drilling holes in it, but didn't change anything. It was the thickest piece I had bought until recently, now I got a piece a little larger. Hope I don't run into that problem again, or i'll have to attach it to a cinder block or something, since this piece isn't tall enough to reach my center brace.

The old piece wasn't that big, heres a pic.

I have a couple of pieces that have been underwater for 6 months or more and refuse to stay sunk without the help of a few strategically placed rocks. I have a couple of pieces floating in my new discus tank now, but I am actually hoping that they stay that way, lol.

Maybe BFM is right - I've used a few different kinds of wood (no idea what), and never had anything that floated for more than a couple of weeks.

Maybe it's magic!:)

could be a core cut of like balsa or red cedar. i'm thinking it has to be a light hardwood as well as a core cut. that's the only way i would think it would be dense and light enough to be submersed for so long. that must suck though when you want it at the bottom.

Maybe attacch another piece of rock to the existing marble...

i bought slate tiles and screwed my wood to them then buried it under the sand

I had a piece that I had soaking in a garbage can (because of it's size) for 2 years, held down with cinder block.... now, it's sitting on my mantle because it still shot to the top each time I changed the water.
