Hi, thanks for reading this as it is my first post. I have a common plecostomus that is approx. 4-5 inches long. We have recently started implementing his diet with algae discs, and I have noticed that all day today he has had a very long strand of something coming from him. It has been atleast 8-9 inches long, and it got stuck to the filter. Eventually it fell off, but then he produced another one of the same length. I have never seen him do this, and if you can't already tell I am a first time aquarium owner. Any help as to what it is(I think it is a form of waste), and if it is normal would be awesome :o . Thank you.

Thanks :p I thought that might be the answer, but then again it is my luck to have pets that have issues. But my goodness, that is an unbelievable amount of poop. I have to vacuum my aquarium again. Ah, the life of a fish caretaker. :D

lol
soon you're gonna see some hanging in your plants, heater, ornaments... then you will realize that you need a stronger filter and lots of vacumming/water changes!!

Plecs are definately poop factories - very messy - hope you have a large tank and like doing water changes! ;)

Definitely. For a "cleaning fish", they aren't very clean at all. :D

I feed my Pleco 1/2 an algea wafer a day and let him work the gravel and glass for any other food he wants/needs. This seems to be more than enough for him as he is still growing like a weed (almost 8" now) and still manages to be a major poop machine.

Yes, I had to clean my aquarium again yesterday because he has been pooping non stop for three days. It is driving me nuts! :thud: Now I appear to have an amonia problem and am seriously considering if I really need a plecostomus or not.

Do you have any plants in there? They appreciate the extra fertilizer, although the pleco may move them around :)
