Unsure about Pleco

No live plants, only fake ones. My tank is a 35 gallon tank. I have been informed that I need a larger tank, which I am going to get once I have the money. I swear though, for the past three days all he has done is pooped. Non-stop, which I have never seen him do before. I guess he is just a busy little pleco. :D

I have never seen a pleco stop pooping, so don't be suprised if he keeps it up.
Pleco's are designed to ingest large quantities of low nutrition foods, process what they need and excrete the rest. Some species even eat driftwood. Cut way back on the algea wafers and get him some fresh veggies. This will reduce the ammonia production a bit, and at the same time give him a more natural diet. My pleco only gets algea wafers one day a week, otherwise he gets fresh vegies and wahtever hits the bottom of the tank.
Mine is especially fond of cucumbers, but eats Zucchini, greanbeans, broccoli stems, and lettuce. Get a Cheap veggie clip at the pet store, and stick a slice of something in there for him. Put it close to where you normally put your wafers and he'll catch on quickly.

Thanks for the advice Dave. I have not given my pleco any wafers today, and I did purchase some fresh veggies. I thought, however, that I could just put a greenbean in the tank w/o the veggie clip. Needless to say, the greenbean is floating. :o I am having my husband purchase a veggie clip tomorrow afternnon. And, you are right, he has not stopped pooping since friday. oh well, love the pleco anyways.

Floating plants might be a good idea- plecos tend to like subdued lighting, and that might help with nitrogen...

I love my bristles, but they seem to produce their body volume in poop every week... That's why I do biweekly vacuumings/changes of around 60% to keep exceptional water quality. Gonna try and see if he can subsist off one sinking wafer per day, and then see if he and the severum will go for some blanched spinach as an alternative.

I have finally gotten the ammonia down, and the tank is crystal clear again (for now). I bought a cheap veggie clip yesterday, and it broke right out of the container. I am going to take it back and get new one. I have also reduced the amount of algae wafers that I have been feeding him, and he seems to be doing fine with the leftovers at the bottom of the tank. I hope to have the new veggie clip tonight to start feeding him veggies, and hopefully it will all work out until I can get my bigger tank.

I thought, however, that I could just put a greenbean in the tank w/o the veggie clip.

that is possible with canned green beans but not frozen or fresh ones. it is downright comical to watch your pleco try to eat a canned green bean not attached to anything. as they try to scrape it they end up chasing it all over the tank.

pleco fun vs pleco poop

While pleco's do produce a lot of waste, you'll not find a more entertaining tank fish if your pleco likes to come out in the light. I have two 10 inch commons, a baby common, 1 royal, and a clown plec in my 125gal tank. The adults hollow out squash on a daily basis, the royal pins koi food to the bottom of the tank and snuffles it up. They keep me entertained. They also like bib spinach, aparagus stalks, zuchinni. While a lot of work to keep your tank clean, the commons grow fast, make good community tank fish, and are great to watch.
