up and running

Well, we've had some very warm weather this past few days and it allowed me to get my pond cleaned up and running again. I set up the waterfall as a filter using the Lava rock idea someone had mentioned. For now I also have the old filter running to clean/clear the water until my new one gets here, sometime in the next week or so. I also bought 4 comets, 4 black mystery snails, 2 tall sword plants and 2 water lillies. So far it's looking very nice! Next week I plan on getting a couple more sword plants, some anacharis or parrotfeather, and some more fish. I was trying to figure out how many snails I should keep in there to keep algea under control ... I have 4 now, any idea how many more I should get? Also, I was thinking of getting some cory cats for keeping the bottom clean, do you think that would be a good idea? If so how many should I get? I'm planning to remove all the fish in October when I close the pond down for the winter, in case you were afraid the fish were doomed.

Any other suggestions? Thanks

Corydoras are very sensitive fish...not suited for a pond, certainly not in Michigan either.

I would get a few dozen snails...they will take care of the rest. They breed like crazy. Also, make sure to get the kind which eat algae, not just the ones who breed like nuts! :p

PS: your right about michigan. I live in South-East Michigan and it was 85*F. today.
