Hopefully the pictures load up ok....Well, I gave it a week. Just a quick sentence for people who didn't see the last post...Started to get cyanobacteria in my 3 gallon betta tank. I tested nitrates (which were at 5 ppm). Found out it was a really old nitrate test kit, bought a new one and tested, and behold, zero nitrates. I also had not bought any type of fertilizers for this tank because, well, it was such a small tank with one betta, and only the stock LED lighting which came with the Tetra Crescent tank. I didn't think for a minute there was going to be a lot of growth, I just figured it would lead to a lot of algae. I guess I was wrong. So, about a week ago(after the cyano was starting to get pretty bad) I bought "Root Tabs" which I have used in the past and like. I also target dosed with liquid nitrogen to get the nitrates up to 5 ppm, which is really 10 ppm nitrates considering the type of nitrates the liquid nitrogen provides. Anyway, with plenty of fertilizer introduced, I also added a 1 litre bottle of CO2 (diy of course). Well while monitoring the nitrate levels after a week, they are still at 5 ppm, but the cyano has got quite a bit worse. I could do a complete black out, but I have done that before and don't find it as effective as using Erythromycin. So yesterday, I started my first dose. It was maybe a little strong tho because the packets are for 10 gallon tanks. I measured the packet which contained about 1/2 teaspoon of erythromycin, so I added a little under 1/4 teaspoon for my 3 gallon tank. My betta is still eating and does not look at all stressed. I hope it's ok. I took pictures to catalogue the progress.
