hey guys, haven't posted in a while.
Anyway, wanted to update you on my tank. I have a 20G, and had it set up for years (2000-ish) and after a talk by Tom Barr, I decided that my tank might do better if I REMOVED the plenum that had been in there for years.
It was a little scary, and I had no fish in there at the time (the were a casuality of someone turn ALL the power off for 4-5 days when I was out of town). I also added a bunch of new sand.
I took EVERYTHING out of the tank, removed the plenum, added some mud from outside. Well, it went though another ugly stage, some of the sand has turned that anarobic grey.
But after a few weeks, the cyno went away, and the tank started to look better.
Now, 6 months later, I have two happy clowns (one really MEAN one), and my prized Xenias are all recovering.
So it turns out to be a good thing, going from plenum to non plenum.
