So, I dont think I ever got around to updating what illness erupted in my tank... I mentioned it in this thread: http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=216467

I suspect it was columnaris. As I saw it spreading thoughout my 40g, I pulled each and every fish that had ANY sort of discoloration, or problem... This happened to be about half the tank. I put them in a quarantine rubbermaid tub and treated with salt. Kept the temp low as I didnt want it to spread. Well, the losses were staggering to me... I lost 1 yellow lab, 4 daktari, 7 zebra obliquens, 2 f1 cyno lion sangas, and an adult female chewere. Totals up to 15 fish. I ended up with 3 that made it. One yellow lab and one female lion sanga. The 3rd is a zebra obliquen who is healing, but im not sure if he will make it. The other 2 are fine and have been brought back into the tank. This happened quickly and Im glad I moved all of them when I did before it got to the rest of my stock. The biggest loss for me was the lion sanga. I paid a huge price to get them, and the male was just starting to come into his coloration some. I had wanted them for a LONG time.

Currently the tank has 4 yellow labs(one, the best looking looks sick, but he has since I got him..) 2 chewere, 3 adult mbamba, 10-15 or so juvie mbamba, 1 daktari, and 3 maingano juvies. I sold the 4 juvie Demasoni I had.

The daktari will be leaving soon, and I am expecting the mbamba to be gone in another month or 2 tops. I'd say about 8 are getting close to be ready for selling. The males are turning the lighter purple. This will make way for more mbamba and more importantly more Demasoni. I currently have 23 dems ranging from .25 to a little over .5 inches. Plus I have 15 more in the tumbler with one dem female holding in the main tank. So, I will be filling my 40g with many little guys as I am getting rid of the other generation of mbamba. The 40g has turned into a nice growout tank as the little guys RARELY get harassed by the few adults in the tank.

My main tank is doing great, and I need to thin out a few msobo's in there. Prolly Monday I will be bagging up plenty of fish to trade in. Including my Maingano who couldnt stop harassing my albino socolofi. I hate to part with him :( Anyway, dont know if anyone cares, but thats my story, lol

Ouch what is with the mbuna tank diseases lately? First my fish got sick and I lost about half the tank. Now myswtsins, is battling a mystery disease and you've had loses as well. I know we all work hard to keep our mbuna healthy and happy and it just doesn't seem fair. :( So sorry for your loss. I was there not too long ago. It was hard to try and move on but now things are easier.

Wow Justin, that really hurts a lot! I'm so shocked with your story that I can only say that I feel very sad about your losses.

I'm just pulling this out of my ***, but maybe it has something to do with the florida fish farms? I know with the freeze there were TONS of losses and it had to have triggered mass problems. A lot of the fish that make it to the stores are from the farms. It may be possible they have been infecting the tanks. Mine happened after I added 2 yellow labs from the store to my tank. I had quarantined them for 2 weeks, but it wasnt enough. I had been growing out the obliquens for 6-7 months, the daktari for about 4. So, theres time invested. The lions hurt the most though. My male was looking awesome.

Blue, did u ever get another dem for your tank?

Yep, I think that's what happened. IMO, the cold triggered all this chaos.

**** cold snap. I swear all this did start with the issues at the farms. Blue, I am curious as to why these stores all use a centralized system. I understand that it is easier to heat water at one source, then flow it through the system to all the tanks. BUT, I mean, every store has different species with different requirements. And what happens when disease breaks out? It hits the entire stock. I hate even going to my LFS cause his tanks are now pretty disease-filled. It seems like its been that way for at least 3 months now. If it was run with a huge air pump and sponge filters, u wouldnt have the diseases spreading to the entire store

That's why i love my Tangs sorry to hear about that Justin..
