I posted a few weeks back with my questions about starting up a tank. The tank is fully cycled and has 5 platys. Two red wagtails and three gold twin bar platys. One of gold platys has already had some babies, and I foresee quite a few more in the future.

My initial plans for a 29 gallon tank were:

5 platys
1 dwarf gourami or a male female pair
7-8 cory cats

After much reading and study, I have developed a bit of a new set up, but for the most part it is the same.

The platys are staying. I still want corys, but I have decided that five would be about right for now.

I am still up in the air about a dwarf gourami or a male/female pair of them. Would a gourami do a good job eating the platys fry? I don't want to have 20 fry survive every single time my platys give birth. The platys do eat some of the fry themselves, but don't seem to be totally effective...

I might also like some type of tetra...

Also, I was wondering whether or not adult cherry shrimp would do fine with dwarf gouramis and platys...

the shrimp may be eaten by the gourami, would be an expensive snack...

the shrimp will probably be eaten by either the gourami and platies before they reach the bottom of the tank or they will be eaten by the corydoras soon after. i wouldnt add them.

if you cut down the number of platys to 4 and the corydoras to 5, you could add a school of 6 neons. for the fry problem, just get all males or females. there is not any color difference between the two.
