Upgrading from 26g bow front to 92g corner

Well after a lot more research on the Pictus, I'm hedging bets on a 6-8" adult size, and if they get bigger, we have plans for upgrading our turtles to a pond setup so the 180g we have will become the home of the pictus.

Here's the plan:
9 Tiger Barbs
9 Roseline Sharks
4 Petricola Catfish
3 Spotted Pictus Catfish (wife wants)
2 Hillstream Loach
1 Angel Pleco
1 Candy Stripe Pleco
1 Red Tailed Shark
1 Penguin Tetra (the bully)

And then waiting a few weeks before getting anything else until I get a feel for what the tank is "missing." There's been a lot of great ideas so thank you to everyone who has contributed. Of course this could go out the window if I fall in love with something while hitting the stores in Denver picking up new decorations and plants for this upgrade.

This will give us about 11 catfish/plecos/loaches hanging around the bottom area, 18 Barbs flying around the middle, bottom, really where every they want. And the Red Tail Shark bossing everyone around and probably fighting with the Penguin Tetra.

IMHO you should avoid the pictus all together. Ultimately this is your call, but this is a carnivore, not an omnivore like most of the others listed.

And the general sizes are general. Fish are different since they can all outgrow that given good water quality and good food sources.

The adventure started this morning at about 10:00 when we hit the road. A rushed trip to Lowes, K-state victory and Alabama loss later and it is starting to settle down.

There's a small drip from the bulkhead on the intake of the overflow so the filter isn't going fully yet and I have some other filters running and a powerhead injecting fresh oxygen into the water.

Only new members so far was one spotted pictus catfish and some leopard leaf fish my wife fell in love with. We also got a new crawfish for a tank we emptied moving stock into this one.







Will post some better pictures tomorrow when things settle down and after the first water change. That's a 25# piece of Malaysian driftwood as the center piece. Gonna love it when hit colors up. Tomorrow is plants and finalize other new stock.

Leopard Ctenopoma is the exact leafy looking guy we got.

Very aggressive we hear, and will get to a nice 6" size like most of the other stuff. Right now he is the smallest guy in the tank at about an inch long.

And yes, we drove home in a snow storm! Only almost slid off the road twice on the 2.5 hour drive (normally just an hour). Luckily all the guys made it home safely.

Well the stock is done and the first batch of plants are in, waiting on if I want to do something else with plants. I'm not going to run CO2, so don't think I can go too much.

How long did you have the new tank up and running before fish went in?
Was it cycled?

Fish were added about 30 minutes after water going in. So not self sufficiently cycled. I seeded it and use a quick start bacterial supplement like I do on all my tanks and I've never had an issue.

The new tank was seeded with all of the gravel from the 26 (It should have been about 30lbs), the filter pad from the old filter (Aqueon Large size) and about 13 gallons of the old tank water that I put into the bio wheel in the sump and 3 cabon bags I took out of my 180g's Fluval FX5.

Then I've been doing daily 50% water to help clear up the discoloration from the new drift wood, each time redosing the quick start bacterial supplement.

But to answer your question, right away and no.
