I need to upgrade my Berlin HO skimmer to a larger stand alone outside the sump skimmer. My bioload is too much for this skimmer. I was going to go with an ASM G3, but it's too tall and everybody told me I have to have it in the sump.

Any suggestions on which skimmer to get that will be very efficient, rated for 200gal or more, height is no problem(outside the sump) and costs under $400.00?

Thanks,
Tom

Anybody have suggestions as to a large plumbed outside the sump skimmer for under $400.00?

I like the downdraft skimmers with the becket injector modification.

I have an ETS and a copycat ETS. Both work well and the real ETS is easier to clean.

The skimmer will need a pump. I use a MAG12 on mine.

It is possible to run the G3 outside the sump I've seen it done. You have to run the output back to the sump this also requires the gate valve mod and a more powerfull pump.

That's interesting. I wanted the G3 to begin with, but no room in the sump. I thought it wasn't possible because it wasn't built well enough and might leak (read on another thread about the G2).

Do you know what size pump I'd need? When ordering I might be able to ask for the larger. Also, where would I get the gate valve mod?

Thanks,
Tom

Which ets do you have and what's it rated for? I need one for at least 130gal.
Thanks,
Tom

ETS 500 - Around 180-200g.

I don't think the 500 is sold by AE Technology anymore, but the Reef Devil might work.
