I am going to be upgrading to a 55G tank which I'm hoping will eventually become a reef tank. I currently have a 35G FOWLR tank that houses

2 false percs
2 damsels (one yellow tail and one blue devil)
1 Firefish
1 Neon Goby
1 Cleaner shrimp
and many snails and hermits

I have a mechanical filter, an UG filter and about 50 lbs of LR (i think). I know that many people say that damsels are really aggressive, but all of my fish seem to be getting along very well. They have been in this tank together for about a year now. Maybe I have been lucky?! Anyways, Im doing a huge amount of research on reef tanks because that is the direction i eventually want to go. My question now is this, what other kinds of fish can I keep in this new 55G tank along with my current tank? I was thinking about adding a Six Line Wrasse and possibly a Flame Hawkfish. Does anyone else have any other suggestions and if i add two more fish that are about 4" each, would that be too much for my tank to handle?

I'd not risk a hawkfish with a shrimp in the tank. The shrimp will most likely end up an expensive snack. The six line would be a good although sometimes bossy tank mate. I'd consider some of the fairy wrasse as well.

i agree to stay away from the 4,6,or 8 line wrasses and the hawk fish. if you don't do corals than a pygmy, flame or coral beauty angel will be nice (only 1 angel per tank though). royal grammas are nice.

What about the Wrasses? I want the livestock I'm am going to put in my new tank to be reef safe and have some personality like my Firefish & Neon Goby
