UPS for tank??

You saying I could do that on 13 FW tanks, two filters each? ;)

Would that we were all saddled with such problems Roan. :)

I don't get it though. If yuo let your filter cartridges float in your tank water, and you have a backup air pump, shouldn't that be good for a while during a power outage? Besides, you're in Vancouver...so the power outages shuoldn't be that long...right? (I live in the boonies :thm: )

Who's in BC? Not I, sayeth the fly.

I'm in VA. Hurricanes pass through here a lot. The longest power outage we've had though, was in MI. We lost power for over 5 days during a nasty snowstorm.

Another thing to consider is that when the power goes out, the fish tanks are not my main priority. I'm sure it's the same for other folk.

I've kids, dogs, cats, snakes -- they come first -- then the tanks. Any leeway in time I can get by having a backup system until the generator kicks in will help a lot.

OK RA, how about my 24 tanks, all at least double filtered, some higher multiples than that?

I'm in the mountains of MD, likely not that far from RA. Our longest outages have been hurricanes. Life is complicated by living on a ridge, where the power line run through the woods and the right-of-way has not been maintained in years.

Yah yah -- You've also been doing this since the Stone Age ;)

I'd hate to have another Isabella come through with a setup like yours, but I bet you have a generator. At least your veggie filter tanks would be fine, wouldn't they?

We're about 5-10 minutes from Dulles Airport.

Man, one hurricane and no backup and your tanks are toast. Not a fun thought.

We're due to have a Cat 4 hit VA Beach and north, RTR. I just know it. Last one was Isabelle, three years ago. It was exciting back then when I didn't have fish tanks. Now, exciting, but with an very heavy air of emergency and worry.

Hubby finished his corner stand for his 92g reef tank last night. He's going to add all his rock in mid-March. Knowing my husband, he is *not* going to let a power outage ruin all his hard work, so he'll probably start looking into this in April.

LOL! While I was commuting, I was Greenway and the Toll Road every day. It was 45-60 min. here to Reston/Herndon.

We had a 3-day outage back then. Lost a tank of shrimp babies, nothing else.

Please! The Dark Ages are quite far enough back, the Stone Age was even before my time... ;)

You need to come to a GWAPA meeting sometime. We more or less alternate sides of the river.
