UPS rant

yea, but it sounds like you packed it properly so how can it be your fault?

See, they get you on the insurance thing.....they have a little clause in there that states if they say you didn't pack it properly...they don't have to pay !

Technically, they have to prove that you didnt pack it properly. They can not assume you didnt. If they have no proof of your packing methods, they can not say its your fault.

Yeah, they say, they say. They could say something packed in a lead-lined, shielded titanium capsule isn't "properly packed" and they do not have to admit to any fault.
Never ship anything that you wouldn't want to be folded, stapled, mutilated, spindled or crushed unless you have no other choice.

Truely I would say, the only way if you have to ship something using them or any other shipping company.......let them do the packaging !! It really is the only way to safe guard yourself. If they pack it up.....then they can't say it wasn't packaged properly and they wouldn't have a leg to stand on in trying to cheat you out of your money....course, that costs extra !

Man!!! That really sucked about your violin! I don't trust UPS either. I wouldn't want to ship anything fragile through UPS. Everytime I get anything from UPS the box is always round, if you know what I mean.
I hope that some "miracle" comes your way and UPS cover for your violin. Keep trying!

Lol Harbor...it's just a phrase......to get something off your chest refers basically to how it feels when something is bothering you and you talk about it....sort of feels like a weight lifted off of your chest.

am-ple adj. Sufficient; abundant; large

though for me....abundant suffices ;) :p:

I had a bad experience with UPS recently.......my advice...don't ever trust that your package is insured...because it really isn't !.......

If they say your package is insured......DON"T BELIEVE THEM !!...
The question is of "insurance." Maybe I overlooked something, but how much did you insure it for, and where's the reciept for the insurance?

I'd never recommend F-Ex, but that's not the Topic.

The store may have a requirement for "minimal" insurance and that's it.

Sorry to hear of this problem, but even small claims, I doubt, would help.

It may be no comfort but we have a difficult time getting insurance claims accepted here at work. We ship a lot of our products (we make point of purchase displays) through UPS and don't screw around with packaging. Our displays are packed in custom sized cardboard boxes, braced with cardboard fillers and cushioned with blow foam. We also "Drop Test" everything which entails packing a display for shipping and pitching it off the loading dock. If it survives its a good pack out. For some pieces we even ship it cross country and back to test it.

Yet, still, when a display arrives broken, its a wrestling match. We usually win but it takes a while and we do mucho $$ worth of shipping with UPS.

Wish I had an answer for you. Next time you might want to have the UPS store pack it for you so that you can go after them if it arrives broken.
