I just learned of this catfish today in a book i got on tropical fish types. has anyone ever seen these guys before? or does anyone have them? they are really cool looking kinda they prefer to swim on their backs and are nocternal.:omg::cool:

I've seen them in tanks at the lfs. Personally, I find them a little unnerving to watch. :)

they really do swim upside down. they are cute, but i couldnt deal with the stress of constantly wondering if something was wrong with them

lol ... I remember the first time I saw them at my lfs. I thought they were really cool. They really do swim upside down. I bought, I can't remember 4-5 of them. And was tired of them in a week. Sounds like I'm not the only person who felt that way about them.

In a way, they remind me of danios in that once you have them in a tank, it's no long a peaceful tank. It's a tank full of frenetic energy.

I had one a long time ago. They're neat fish. Go for it if you want one.

These guys are awesome.... synodontis nigriventis, I believe (I'm not going to Google LOL). I was actually planning on getting 2 for my Lake Tanganyika set-up. They generally remain on the small side (~4 inch max.) and are good detritus cleaners. I think the fact that they do almost everything upside-down adds an interesting appeal. They tend to be reclusive, so you may not see them much during the daytime.

I have two of those, they're really neat lil' fish. They're so active and well, weird. I mean, you have to watch them swim, it's just strange lol

LOL, Like others I saw one at LFS and at first I thought it was a dying fish. I went over to take a closer look and had to laugh at my initial reaction! They are cool and I have been toying with the thought of getting some.

i may when i get a bigger tank((After collage :( )) have to get some.

UDC's are pretty cool......I think they are schooling fish and they swim upside down because they are used to eating mosquito larvae. There is my fun fact of the day!
