They are cool they live forever and get pretty big my lfs has some over 30years old and around 12"

oh 12''...thats way to big for my 29 gallon :duh:
 
I've got one that has grown from 1.5" to about 6" in only 7 weeks.
They look kind of scary and ugly. I never see it doing anything which leads me to believe they are active mostly in the dark.
 
Define upside-down catfish. There are multiple Synodontids sold under the same common name. I have Brachsynodontis batensoda, the giant inverting catfish, which is quite large and is almost always upside down, but it is not "the" upside-down catfish, which is Synodontis nigroventris - and it only get 4" or a tad over.
