i would try feeding him frozen foods only. i only had problems with dry food as far as constupation. maracyn-two is great for dropsy though. maybe you'll have to do 2 treatments with few days in between without treatment. try to hold him hungry longer before you feed a pea.
i find my fish (all of them) just seem to play with peas. it never really seems like they eat it because they don't eat a lot of it like other foods. when it works though you know it because you wake up the next day almost to fish with no bloat. people often don't believe it was the peas and that may be why.
it may not be the case with your guy but hopefully that gives some insight.
He's doing ok, I can't really tell if there's any physical improvement yet... I will try to get a couple of pix of him soon I'm going to try giving him some frozen food soon, thanks for that.
I fed him frozen bloodworms today, and he gobbled them right up. Good news is he isn't any worse, but I can't really tell if he's any better. I'll feed him some more frozen foods tomorrow, and I just dosed his meds for the day. Updates soon!
He seems to be doing alright so far, and I'd really like to move him to the heated and filtered 10g tank, but he's still on his meds, and I'm not sure it would be ok for the snails (nerites and briggs) to be exposed to the antibiotics. Would it hurt them?
Here are a few pics of him....his name is Lenny (the person who gave him to me named him that, but it turned out that I'd really liked that name too! lol):
Doesn't dropsy raise the scales on the entire body rather than just in the front? The pictures seem to suggest that your new Betta is bloated, probably due to the previous owner over feeding him. I would fast him for a couple of days then try the pea again. if he doesn't eat the pea then try the pea again the next day. If he still doesn't eat the pea then go back to feeding him as usual for a few days then try the pea again.
It is very important to keep trying the pea, try holding the pea with your fingers for him so that the pea does not sink.
