So my roommate comes rushing into my bedroom this afternoon to tell me that one of my frogs is trying to get out of my tank :eek3:

I just redid my 15 gallon and slowly transferring everyone back into it. In the meantime, I've been keeping my fish in a 10 gallon in the living room of my apartment. My 2 ADF and 2 small plecos (Albino BN and Clown; both are under 3.5") are the last ones for me to transfer, but since the ADF tend to dig things up I've been waiting until my new foreground plants take root.

I've noticed that this one ADF has gotten a bit bigger lately (not bloat bing, but definitely larger than usual; as if she just had a big meal). I know she's a female and I know the other one is a male. I thought maybe she was pregnant but who knows.

The water conditions are fine. I do regular water changes on the tank, ammonia and nitrites are 0, nitrates are around 10ppm. The other dwarf frog and the 2 plecos are fine, but this one female dwarf frog keeps trying to get out of the tank.

Anyone have any experience with this / have any idea what might be going on.

thanks

Generally the frogs stay around the bottom of the tank (I've had these 2 for over a year now). They do their little pop up to the surface for air thing, but they never spend any time floating around up there.

yesterday, though, she was not only just floating around up there but was actively trying to climb out of the tank (yes there is a lid, otherwise she would have succeeded). I.E. even though she was at the top of the tank she was trying to swim / climb up the glass and was just generally freaking out.

again, I've never seen behavior like this from either of the frogs over the last year, which is why I'm concerned.

I mentioned her girth only because she may (or may not be, tbh I don't know) be pregnant and I was wondering if behavior might be related to that.

I had 2 ADF in my 10g, and the frog that I never saw eat started swimming up to the surface of the water and using the submersible sponge filter to try to escape the tank. He was able to get out of the tank twice while I wasn't home until my sister covered the hole. He spend the next two days hanging on the glass above the filter before simming down to the bottom and dying :(. Don't know why, he had a dark mark on his leg near his butt, and I never saw him eat.

is it discoloured at all? if it is at all discoloured then there is usually something wrong...especially any red markings on the webbings of the feet or legs usually is a bacterial infection of some sort
what is your tank temp? do you let your water adjust to room temp before adding it? the reason I'm asking is because ADF can be enticed to spawn with colder water (colder than what is currently in the tank) and if she is bigger than usual maybe she is pregnant and trying to find a safe place to drop the eggs

just a thought

she's not discolored. I had 2 frogs die of a bacterial infection about 1.5yrs ago and she isn't showing any signs of that (one of the symptoms associated with this type of bacterial infection was the frog would try and get out of the tank).

she's been in the tank for almost 2 weeks. the tank does not have a heater (bad i know, but only have 1 heater. was actually going to add the last couple guys to my 15 gallon today or tomorrow but then this happened) so the water is about room temp (which is ~70F)
