*URGENT* recent gourami deaths

bump. Come on folks!

test strips are crap, and the 5-in-1 doesn't even have an ammonia test, that's different. bring it back and pick up some liquid test kits at walmart or a local pet shop. sometimes you can find a master test kit at petsmart, print out the online price and bring it in to the store. they are much more accurate and give you precise numbers.

Mmm, having not seen the water test results, I can't say for sure, but I'm starting to think that this is not a water quality issue. Especially when you say the bettas look fine, but the other fish don't, and it appears that you keep up the maintenance fine.

I think when you added the new fish to the tank you upset the aggression balance in the tank. I'm going to assume that the alpha fish was one of the bettas, and that when you added the new gourami to the tank it decided to re-assert it's alpha status and started beating up on all of the gourami's.

As for the pink gills, My guess is that when your gourami's got stressed they lost most of the color, and that caused their gills to look flesh colored.

Well yes they have lost alot of their colour. I added a new betta, not a gourami. But my alkalinity and pH are extremely high.

actually, ich can infest the gills. Particularly in fish with prolonged exposure to the parasite, their bodies can develop somewhat of an immunity to it, leaving it to attack the vulnerable gills. Once the fish get stressed (poor water quality will definitely do that), the ich will explode all over their bodies resulting in the typical white spot and flashing symptoms.

Ozzie (I know how it's pronounced cuz I spent some time abroad there), I would really recommend getting a liquid test kit. The strips are notoriously inaccurate as well as hard to read.
