URGENT: Shark's skin coming off/infected?? Help please!

If you live in the tropics, then build a pond for the fish.

I agree with the permit idea, it should be done, I further believe people should have permits to have children, but we wont get into that.

The sad fact is that these fish are sold to the general public, and those who are distributing them do not adequately inform the buyers. I know I've bought cichlids, at the recommendation of my LFS (before I knew much about the hobby at all) that grew to 12 inches. They knew all I had was a 55 gallon tank, and that it was my first- but it was a sale. I slowly learned through avenues like AC, google, and books. Said fish have now all gone to appropriate homes and several are happily spawning in species tanks, I receive regular updates- and obviously do my research now before a purchase.

The point is- you cannot blame dano for having this fish, you can blame the barrage of misinformation and shops that are looking for a quick sale within our hobby. He's learning though, as I did, and if this fish does make it out he could attempt to rehome it. I dont think the fish is due a sooner-rather-than-later euthanasia. It has a will to live. The poor thing can give up at any time, and he hasnt.

Danno is asking questions in the right places, and he is doing right by the living creature in his care. There will be several months before this fish can even be considered for rehoming, so lets focus on that later. Perhaps even someone on AC with a big heart and room would take him in. You never know, and there are options.

BTW: Danno said the shark is 10 years old in his inicial post. I am curious to know how you acquired the big boy, Danno.
 
I agree with you VivaLaVics but I also feel people should do a bit more research. I know before information was hard to come by even on the net so much conflicting information but now you got several reliable site to go to if u just spend a lil time doing the research. Also permits would prevent people from buyin fish like this without knowing there potential size. At least it does have a owner who is willin to care for it the best way they know how. Imagine if there were permits then there would be less dumping of these fish in our local ponds streams lakes rivers as well.

Good example is a friend at my job wanted to buy some dogfaced fish from hawaii said it was freashwater i did some research and found out its a salt water fish named a Dog Faced Puffer which requires a 100+ for one when i told him he was shocked cuz he was looking to get like a 30-40gal from the sounds of it.
 
Bear in mind that ten years ago such vats of information were not as easily accessible. We also don't know where he lives or how old he was then. But anyways, what's done is done. He has the fish regardless.

Sadly, the absence of Dano from this thread leads me to think that by avoiding the rehoming problem it will simply go away.
 
Madding I didnt mean Him doing research I realize he got it 10yrs ago and the net wasnt as big or relieable back then im talking bout most people now a days.

Just stay possitive hopefully he is just having problems gettin online or something. After 10yrs would that fish even grow anymore??? I mean since it would most likely be stunted.
 
I'm worried that the shark took a turn for the worse and he's just not able, emotionally, to come tell us about it yet.
 
Ok, HE HAS BLACK SKIN GROWING BACK over his wound!
Water changes as regular, normal feeding!
I think he's healing! I will TRY AND POST pictures!
 
About the tank thing, I didn't realize this fish could get this large when I brought it...I have tried contacting local aquariums/ponds, none of them wanted to take it in...
Though I always have a freshwater pond nearby that is managed by fishkeepers I can put it in if it gets too large...
