It needs to say USB2 or USB2.0 or Enhanced USB. If it doesnt you dont have it (which i am fairly certain you dont as the ASUS motherboard in your PC should not be capable of it).
Just an idea. If you have a free PCI slot in your PC you can buy a USB2.0 controller card and run the burner from it. Not the greatest solution but it works.

USB 1.1 = 12 Mbps*
Firewire = 400 Mbps*
USB 2.0 = 480 Mbps*

So theoretically USB 2.0 provides the fastest transfer speed but actual transfer speeds are dependent on the device itself.

Personally I'd recommend getting yourself a 5.25" external drive enclosure with both USB2.0 and Firewire. That way you can buy any regular internal DVD Burner you like and mount it in the enclosure.
I have been using a Welland 5.25" enclosure for over a year now, when I wanted a faster DVD Burner it was as simple as opening the case taking the old one out and replacing it with the new LG GSA-4167B I bought. The cost of the upgrade was less than half what having to replace a regular external burner would have been.
As for what interface to use... firewire is the better choice and significantly quicker, despite USB2.0's theoretically higher bandwidth. Having a case with both is handy though as not everyone has firewire.

the usb/firewire speeds posted above are the maximum "burst" speeds, you'll probably never see those speeds because of the way that windows uses it. the best thing to do would to get an IDE drive (one that plugs into the mother board), most of the time these are cheaper anyway. check out pricewatch.com, I just found a dual layer lightscribe dvd burner for $45
